Module United Nations (MUN)
The DAS MUN, class is currently involved with fund raising, to offset individual cost to participants in the MUN Far East Conference. This conference will be held in Seoul, during the month of March.
Some students that participate in MUN are enrolled in the MUN class, while others are participating in via after school sessions. All that are involved in the class have the opportunity to attend the Far East Conference though a selection process will be used to make the final selection of 10 students that will represent TAS this year.
MUN Information:
“Through discussions… real issues of international importance are given exposure. At MUN conferences, unlike in the real [UN], the delegate enters into a situation in which… perceptions and choices are exchanged in a compressed period of time e.g. at the THIMUN conference in five days of intense activity. Therefore the demands on the use of quality skills and diplomatic sensitivity challenge the participants to live up to a high standard of action and decision-making.”
Based on the above statement from The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN), our local chapter of Model United Nations will spend its time leading up to the January conference in the Netherlands developing the issue knowledge and diplomatic skills necessary to live up to the high standards expected by the conference organizers.
Model United Nations is an exciting program that provides students an opportunity to participate in an intellectually demanding activity that will, ideally, help them understand issues affecting our world and also help them develop the skills necessary to thoughtfully debate solutions to the problems created by these issues.
