The DAS Cheerleading program is a fall and winter sport, beginning in September and ending in February/March. It consists of a Varsity squads for grades 9-12 and a Jr. Varsity squad, grades 9-11. The Cheerleaders should promote sportsmanship and encourage spirit and pride for TAS especially at games. This is TAS’s cheerleader’s highest priority.

TAS is a Four-time Far East Champion and Five-time KAIAC Champion in the Varsity level. Jr. Varsity has also held these titles.

CHEERLEADING RULES

Our main goal as coaches is to make sure your children have fun; however, it is also our job to teach them the fundamentals of cheerleading. Therefore, we are implementing the following guidelines for all members of the Daegu American Cheerleaders Squad to insure a clear understanding of our expectation. If you have any questions regarding any of these rules, please contact your daughters/sons head coach. These rules are necessary and fair in order to have a positive, rewarding and productive cheerleading experience.

The following rules are the rules all cheerleaders will be asked to follow throughout the 2006-2007 season.

Practices/Stretching:

You must attend ALL practices. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. If you can not make practice and whenever possible you must call your head coach 1 hour prior to the start of practice or it will be counted as unexcused. Calling a friend or giving the message to someone else to deliver will not be acceptable (this was an issue in the past and WILL NOT be tolerated in the future). We understand that emergencies do arise therefore, those will be handled appropriately. If you accumulate 3 unexcused absences within a month, you will be dismissed from the squad for the rest of the season.

Please bring a water bottle with your name on it to every practice and game. All cheerleaders must wear sneakers with laces to every prac hey must have proper gym attire or they will not be allowed to practice. Improper clothing will be counted as an unexcused absence. You may wear any of the following:

· Shorts (NO JEANS)
· Sweats (must wear shorts underneath)
· Tank tops

You may not wear the following during practices or games:

· Earrings or jewelry of any kind. If you have just gotten your ears pierced at the beginning of the season you will need to have your earrings taped over with band aides for every practice and game
· No oversized t-shirts or loose fitting clothing will be allowed
· Skirts
· Flip flops or slip on sneakers (your shoes must tie)

You must wear your hair up for practice. It is very difficult to conduct mounts if people are getting their hands and feet tangled in someone’s hair.

There will be a mandatory 10 minutes stretching session, to include running, prior to every practice (even if you are late). Stretching is a very important part of what we do. It allows your body to become more flexible and in turn your jumps and routines will benefit from it.

**You will be required to attend all games.

You are required to complete 5 hours of practice a week, no exceptions, in order to cheer in the upcoming game.

If we are faced with disciplinary issues we reserve the right to have a cheerleader sit out any or all portions of the upcoming game.

Games:

All cheerleaders must be dressed in full uniform (sneakers, spankies, turtleneck and socks, which have been purchased by team member) and at the field ½ hour prior to the start of the game if you are late or you are not in FULL uniform, this include socks, you will sit out the first 1/4 of the game. It is important that the girls/boy(s) have skirts, pants, shorts, turtlenecks and vests as well as wind suits for EVERY GAME, in case of a change in weather.

UNIFORMS INCLUDING SNEAKERS MUST BE CLEAN FOR EVERY GAME. If we feel your uniform is not up to par, you will sit for a quarter. If it happens again you will sit out an entire game.

Every cheerleader must wear their hair up in a high ponytail for every game. If your hair is to short for a ponytail, it may be worn down. You may wear soft headbands; however, no metal clips, barrettes or beads will be permitted as they are unsafe.

Once again there will be no eating in uniform; NO EXCEPTIONS therefore, please bring a shirt or something to cover your uniform with you if you plan to eat. You MUST change into regular clothing at the end of your game if you plan to stay longer. You must also change your sneakers.

Only coaches will be permitted by the fence and/or the sidelines where the girls/boys cheer. Parents, friends, and siblings etc. are asked not to congregate near this area as the girls/boys could be easily distracted. The girls/boys have a job to do while they’re at the games and we would appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

All cheerleaders must bring a water bottle with their name on it to every game. Please bring water bottle, your uniform and a change of clothes, when necessary, in a back pack. Please do not bring items in plastic bags. If a parent needs to give a water bottle to their daughter/son please do so either via the coach or wait until half time.

Cheerleaders will stand at the goal post with one hand a crossed chest and one hand behind their back for the National Anthem. There will be NO TALKING during the National Anthem. This is extremely disrespectful and will not be tolerated. When we are dressed in our school colors we not only show respect to our school but our country as well. If anyone is seen talking and/or laughing they will sit the 1/4 quarter.

You may not wear any jewelry, fake nails, nail polish or make-up during practices or games. Nails must be clipped with no nail polish for game day. You may not chew gum at practice or games. Face painting is allowed.

Miscellaneous:

You may not wear your cheerleading sneakers anywhere other then to games. You may not wear sneakers to practice. If you are seen in your sneakers by any of the coaches outside of a game, you will sit out one quarter of the next game.

You may not spot any gymnastics during practice unless you are capable. Only girls/boys who have gymnastics training will be performing tumbling at the coaches request.

You may not, under any circumstances do any cheerleading stunts while in school. We do not want anyone to get hurt. If we are contacted by any of principals that this is occurring at school, you will sit a quarter of the next game.

You will be observed on a DEMERIT SYSTEM.

Any parent or cheerleader complaint shall be taken up with the Cheerleading Coach of that team and all efforts should be made to solve the problem. If the problem still persists, the complaint should be submitted to the Athletic Director in writing. The Athletic Director will make the final ruling.

Each demerit can be removed by performing 10 power jumps for each demerit. (Before and After Practice ONLY)

Thank you in advance for all of your help. We look forward to coaching your daughters/sons in a very successful season. Once again we encourage anyone with any suggestions to please feel free to contact the cheer director, Jody Parker, at the number stated above.
